No, only for healthy people without an illness context

Commercial nutrition counselling supports healthy people in shaping their everyday diet more consciously, for example around weight, sport or general wellbeing. It is regulated as a restricted form of Lebens- und Sozialberatung; access requires a degree in nutrition science or training in dietetics.

What it covers

Counselling covers the physiological, biochemical and allergological aspects of nutrition, eating behaviour and lifestyle, and reducing risk factors in the spirit of health promotion. Food itself is a central topic:

  • How is it structured?
  • How is it industrially produced?
  • How can diet-related illness be avoided?

The line to illness

As soon as an illness or a suspicion exists, nutrition therapy is a matter for dietetics and medicine, not for commercial counselling.
